Feel like a little fishing, well Taranaki is surrounded by the ocean,
so you do not need to go very far as the coastline offers anglers
varied and easy accessible opportunities whether you are a rock, beach, or
ledge fisher, snapper, gurnard and kahawai are present all the year round.
Boat fishermen are also catered for with ramps, Urenui, Waitara, New Plymouth, Cape Egmont,  Ohawe (Hawera) and Patea.

For a special treat like trout fishing, Taranaki provides hundreds of kilometres of brown trout fishing from the streams and rivers that run from the mountain.
There are lakes which the province allows all methods of fishing with the eception of Lake Mangamohoe on the outskirts of New Plymouth , which is restricted to fly fishing only.

TARANAKI ATTRACTIONS for Holiday Fun – HUNTING AND TRAMPING!
Taranaki has large areas of bush covered hills, with a large proportion
of these are under the care of the Department of Conservation, who will
give access to hunters and people wishing to tramp in these areas, by permit only.
These can be obtained from the local Department of Conservation Office at no cost.

These areas contain a good number of wild goat, pigs, rabbits, possums and the occasinal deer.
There are enough of these animals to give the keen hunter a great day’s hunting.
